News about the news
With more newspapers scaling back print operations, who's going to report the news? Matthew Brian Hersh, associate editor of Shelterforce, published by the National Housing Institute, asks at the Rooflines blog.
In Atlanta, Political Affairs reports on "a month-old online news service…called GONSO, founded by veteran corporate journalists, is tied to a controversial public relations firm, Alisias, which, among other things, has put a positive spin on the mass displacement of public housing residents and mass demolition of [Atlanta] public housing"
Defense Department reverses bans on photographs of returning war coffins, Informed Comment's Juan Cole explains the implications : "the American public saw a sanitized Iraq war, certainly compared to what was visible on Arab satellite television … the effect was to mask for many years from the US public the sheer horror of what happened there. "
